Overview
Emily was called to the Bar in 2006 and went on to practise as a solicitor between 2009 until she joined St Mary’s in 2018. Emily undertakes work in both public law and private law cases, with experience representing children, parents as well as other family members. Emily is experienced in taking instructions from the official solicitor as well as working with individuals with additional learning needs who require the assistance of an intermediary.
Emily understands the importance of building a clients trust and offers pre hearing conferences where appropriate to do so as well as understands the importance of working alongside those who instruct her and keeping them informed of the outcome of the hearing to enable the case to progress without delay.
Practice Areas
Emily undertakes a significant amount of public law work on behalf of the children, parents, the official solicitor, and other family members. Emily has experience in neglect, sexual abuse, substance misuse and non-accidental injury cases.
Emily is experienced in working with children during care proceedings having previously gained membership on the children’s panel in 2012 during her time practising as a solicitor. She understands the importance of the child’s voice being heard, either through instructions from the children’s guardian or by representing children who are assessed as competent to instruct in their own right.
Emily has experience in working with vulnerable clients including those with additional learning needs who are supported by an intermediary. Emily understands that vulnerable clients need to build a trusting relationship and is happy to offer prehearing conferences to ensure the client feels heard and understands the process ahead.
Emily has a great deal of experience representing children, parents, and other family members in private law proceedings, from the first hearing through to the conclusion of the case and has undertaken many fact finding hearings where domestic abuse is raised.
Emily has experience and takes instructions representing children via the appointment of a 16.4 guardian in private law proceedings. Emily previously worked as a solicitor and was appointed as a member of the children’s panel in 2012 and understands the importance of working closely with the guardian and those instructing her.
