Overview
Paula qualified as a solicitor in 1995 and since then, she has practised exclusively in family law with a specialism in public and private law children cases and domestic abuse. She was a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel and Advanced Family Law Panel for many years. She trained as a mediator in 2005, undertook the Higher Rights Advocacy training in 2009 and the Law Society’s vulnerable witness training in 2018. She was a director in a specialist family law firm until she was called to the Bar.
Practice Areas
Paula specialises in representing parents, children, family members and interveners in all stages of care proceedings including adoption, applications for contact with children in care and applications to discharge/revoke care and placement orders. She has been involved in many complex cases involving injuries to children, including bone fractures, burns, bruising and sexual abuse. Paula is also has expertise in representing parents and children in cases involving neglect, drug and alcohol misuse, learning difficulties/disabilities, mental health issues and emotional harm. As a Children Panel solicitor, Paula was regularly called upon to represent teenagers in care proceedings, secure accommodation applications and deprivation of liberty orders. She often represented children who had been assessed as being competent to provide direct instructions.
Paula undertook all of her own advocacy as a solicitor and has a wealth of experience in representing parents and children at interim contested hearings, finding of fact hearings and final hearings.
Paula acts for both parents and children in complex cases involving parental alienation, implacable hostility, domestic abuse and enforcement proceedings. She was an accredited specialist in private law children cases as a member of the Law Society’s Advanced Family Panel. She has experience in representing parties in all stages of private law proceedings from dispute resolution appointments to multi-day finding of fact hearings and final hearings.
Paula was an accredited specialist in domestic abuse work as a solicitor. She is able to represent parties in both seeking and defending non-molestation and occupation orders.
