Stephen Williams represented the Appellant Mother on a pro bono basis in the Court of Appeal. The appeal was successful and the judgment was handed down today where the case was ordered to return to the Family Court for rehearing.
Jackson LK commented on the representation of the parents:
"Finally, this is a case in which the parents have had the good fortune of excellent pro bono representation by Mr Stephen Williams, trial counsel for the mother, and by Ms Lucy Limbrey, who came into the case for the father at the last moment. In each case, their involvement was arranged through Advocate (formerly the Bar Pro Bono Unit), and it has been instrumental in the outcome of the appeal. It is unfortunate that legal aid was for whatever reason not in place, particularly after permission was granted by King LJ on 8 February 2022, but this appeal underlines the extent to which the administration of justice depends upon lawyers who are willing to step up to represent litigants in person, and upon the organisations that facilitate this"
